One of our fantastic customers recently advised us he found drinking a protein shake after training hard at the gym made him feel bloated. Due to this, he decided to swap shakes for biltong. Now for us, this is a no-brainer however we wanted to write this article to explain why we agree with this move.

Biltong is high in protein and low in carbs. It is a form of dried, cured meat that originates in Southern African countries. Protein is critical when trying to build muscles as it restores the body’s supply of amino acids. These are the main building blocks of our muscles and without them, growth or repair is diminished.

Biltong is not just for gym-goers, although it’s hugely beneficial, it is also seen as a fantastic snack that helps suppress your appetite due to its high protein content (perfect for those looking to lose weight). It is full of vitamins and minerals and contains B12 which is responsible for making red blood cells and keeping the nervous system healthy. It is also packed with iron, zinc and magnesium which is why it’s perfect after a tough training session.

Whilst most of our biltong comes with fat on it, just as we enjoyed it in Zimbabwe, we do have a lean biltong stick listing on our website. We feel this is the perfect option for those looking to keep healthy, stay on the right path and enjoy a healthy and tasty snack at the same time.
